5 Tips For a Fall Reset
September is the new January. Everyone kisses summer and carefree routines goodbye, and we gear back towards our usual routines. September’s become a second new year where we reflect, re-organize and reset both physically and mentally. Now is a great time to refresh your self-care habits to ease into this fall transition and stay motivated. Here are 5 tips to get started on your self-care routine for the fall so you can stay on top of feeling your best:
1. Prioritize your sleep
Sleep is one of the first things we sacrifice when we’re feeling pressed on time. We stayed up late for weeknight social events in the summer, or to finish up our daily to-do lists, or maybe just sneak in another Netflix episode (#guilty). But lack of sleep is one of the most overlooked reasons that can be contributing to our health and wellness concerns. Lack of sleep can lead to brain fog, cravings, weight fluctuations, hormonal imbalances, and more.
Our bodies crave routine and getting back into a healthy sleep schedule is something your body will thank you for. Regulate your sleep cycle by waking up and going to sleep at the same time everyday. Aim for a minimum of 8 hours of sleep and set consistent alarms, even on your weekends, to keep up the habit. So get in tune with your circadian rhythm!
2. Planning your weeks
Although summer parties and events have come to a close, the fall brings on a whole new list of events. And that can feel overwhelming. Stay on top of your work, schooling, or to-do lists by planning your weeks. Set aside some time on your calendar every week to establish the priorities of the week and schedule in the days and times of when you’ll tackle them.
What will help keep you motivated during your weeks? Add things into your schedule that you’re looking forward to! It can be draining seeing only to-do tasks in your planner, so add in those fun activities like drinks with the girls on Thursday night, date night with bae, shopping trips or the fun new workout class you're trying on Saturday morning.
3. Limit your screen time
We wake up to screens and practically go to sleep with them. One of the best ways to make sure you’ll get a good night's sleep and calm your mind is to detox from your electronic devices. Shut off the TV, put down the phone and tuck your AirPods away. Scrolling through social media, watching endless TikToks and the light emitted from electronic devices keeps the brain alert. Aim to close your devices about an hour before sleeping and pick up new screen-free bedtime routines to unwind at night. Instead, relax with a book, journal your thoughts, or practice meditation. Swapping in these practices will help you feel more rested and take much needed disconnection from the online world.
4. Prioritize your self-care practices
Our to-do lists can sometimes feel like a never ending laundry list of tasks that we sometimes forget to do things for our wellbeing. To keep up with our busy schedules, make sure to prioritize time for your self-care practices. Whether your must-do self-care habit is movement, cooking, art mediums, self-pampering (I mean who doesn’t love doing their skincare routine) or spending time with people you love, get those into your routine. Remember, taking some time for yourself will only allow you to excel in other areas of your life! Sis, go ahead and get that #selfcare in!
5. Be real with yourself
It takes time to get back into a routine so don’t be so hard on yourself if getting into the groove of things takes longer than expected. Set realistic expectations to not get so worked up if you haven’t fallen into the rhythm yet. Set small goals and milestones for yourself when building out your routine, and slowly but surely, you’ll transition fully into your fall reset routine. We hope these tips help with your self-care journey.
